OFFICE OF PUBLIC RELATIONS MISSION STATEMENT

The Jackson State University Office of Public Relations exists to ensure the exchange of information so that the University's mission, program and goals are understood, appreciated and supported. The primary responsibilities of Public Relations are designed to foster close relationships with members of the news media and the public they serve; to enhance internal communication on campus with students, faculty, staff and alumni; and to maintain the visual and editorial identity of Jackson State University through the production of quality publications and promotional materials.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Public Information and media relations
  • Internal communications (including the President’s newsletter and The Jacksonian)
  • Photography, Web page and graphic design support
  • Marketing, fundraising support and special projects

The Office of Public Relations seeks to interpret Jackson State to its various constituencies and represent Jackson State in the community. The office assists with the coordination of public relations practices throughout the institution in an attempt to continually build better understanding and support for Jackson State University.

The Office of Public Relations coordinates the University’s media relations and communications activities. The department responds to news media inquiries and informs the media about interesting events of students, faculty, staff and alumni. The department designs, writes and edits brochures, special reports, fliers and newsletters.
